Grant funding success!
We are absolutely thrilled to have secured grant funding from Highland and Islands Enterprise and LEADER (LEADER is a European Union initiative which forms part of the Scottish Government's Scottish Rural Development Programme for 2014-20). Kirsty Scott, Secretary of Belmont Trust and Mike Finnie, our Chair, are to be congratulated on the hours of work that has gone into these applications.
It also proves that the Trust's vision of the role and importance of Belmont House to the Unst community is appreciated and that there is now a more secure financial future to ensure the property remains in community hands. So, thank you to HIE and LEADER for recognizing its importance. But an even bigger thank you to everyone who has volunteered and visited Belmont over the last few years. Your support is essential for spreading the word about our precious gem and for affirming that you do believe that it is very much part of the community.
The funding will allow us to develop the facilities so that we can expand our current offerings throughout the year which is why I would really love to hear from you any ideas that you may have. Part of the funding will be used to fund a study to identify the best renewable energy option for Belmont as our reliance on electrical power is proving to be an increasing burden.
