What is there to do on Unst
Belmont House is the perfect choice for groups of family or friends looking for a rural holiday with a difference. Apart from walking, fishing and family history, Unst hosts many attractions which are open seasonally. These include the Unst Heritage Centre, the Boat Haven, Muness Castle, Muckle Flugga Lighthouse, Hermaness Natural Nature Reserve and the archaeological sites of the Viking Unst Project.
Unst is home to a wealth of wildlife and visitors are often treated to sightings of rare species. Grey and Common seals live around the island and are especially prevalent in the autumn when they give birth to their pups in the sea caves around the north coast. Otters can also sometimes be spotted around the island. Unst’s beautiful cliff faces are also home to a huge variety of sea birds, the most popular of which is undoubtedly the beautiful puffin. There are around 25,000 pairs of puffins on the island that can be seen at their cliff top nest sites from around April to early August. Although not as easy to spot, the waters around Unst are also home to a range of sea mammals from porpoises and dolphins to killer whales and minke whales. Guided wildlife tours and walks can be arranged locally. There is also a fully equipped Leisure Centre with swimming pool, lagoon, games hall, squash court and fitness suite.

A wireless network is available in the house; the key can be found on the hub and in the house information. There is mobile reception at the front of the house. The best network at Belmont is Vodafone. Other service providers may have patchy service in other areas. A payphone is available in the house itself (payphone number is 01957 755249).
